they hope to build 150 homes for families

Our build this year took place in, a slum area located just outside Kabwe in the Central province of Zambia. HFHZ was given a plot of land by the government, in which they hope to build 150 homes for families located in Makululu. This land was given because, during the rains, many floods occur in the area; houses crumble (since they’re made from mud bricks), leading to diseases and loss of shelter. There was a recent outbreak of cholera in the area.

This slum area is the second largest in southern Africa, second only to Soweto. The estimated population is 35,000, though it’s thought to be much higher. Habitat has constructed 25 homes there so far and hopes to have them all completed by end of June 2019.

In addition, there is a new community school close by, a number of water stations, and HFHZ is also allowing areas to be used for a market, and communal grounds where children can play. Soccer gear that was given by us through donations will be used to supply children with balls and uniforms. HFH will ensure these items go where the most use will be made of them.
